Touch TD present ArcticHubs results in a nutshell 🐿️

With the target of condensing our project findings into bite sized chunks, the ArcticHubs webinar series managed to arc across four different but interlinked aspects of the research. The sequence of webinars mirrors the trajectory of the overall project structure and our journey through its various phases.

During the initial two webinars we navigated a path from the environmental impacts on hubs (WP2 webinar), to social and economic perspectives particularly as experienced in a selection of our Arctic hub regions (WP3 webinar).  These facets of research each developed and further tested a range of innovative participatory tools designed to address land-use conflicts in Arctic communities (WP4 webinar). The tools were thoroughly evaluated and are now available for wider use beyond their application within the immediate ArcticHubs project.

Future scenarios and solutions

Bundling up and transferring across that knowledge, the series then concluded with a WP5 webinar that looked forward to the threats and opportunities facing the Arctic in the coming years. This future facing analysis was conducted to enhance the ability of hub regions to adapt in practical ways against future social, economic and environmental changes, in order to create more resilient communities. In the work package, future scenarios were being devised based upon a variety of data and collaborative methods generated in the earlier segments of research and especially used to incorporate local perspectives.

Attention has been placed on crucial issues such as demographic changes, global interests in the Arctic, along with local and indigenous communities’ needs. Our approach is truly participative, involving the gathering together of actors from different regional levels and different fields of life. Jointly we have developed different scenarios – evaluated the impacts of them – thought how to get to the desired future – and led to an associated suite of policy recommendations which help to create actions and solutions in the dynamic and rapidly changing Arctic.

Touch TD hover over the series as faciliator 🦅

Touch TD team steered our fellow partners and researchers around the series, with its role as facilitator, summariser and communicator. A challenging put privileged task which allowed Julie and Jonathan to have a unique bird’s eye view across the complex but exciting suite of research achievements.
